Lot 3096 SECOND YEAR OF PRODUCTION WINCHESTER MODEL 1892
LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 32 WCF. S# 27919. Bbl. 24 1/4". Model 1892 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1893 (second year of production). Left quarter flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Winchester's 2-line mfg. and patent information, with "32 W.C.F." marked towards the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1892." above the Winchester trademark logo. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall. Hammer has been cleaned and polished in-the-white. Sanded and refinished plain wood forearm and straight grip buttstock with crescent steel buttplate. Marbles No. 5 dovetailed blade front sight with dovetailed rear sight modified into a V-notch configuration. V-notch is off center, leaning towards the left side. Upper receiver tang is drilled and tapped, likely for a formerly mounted tang sight. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting light thinning and some light edge wear, with scattered superficial handling marks, light pitting, and striations from prior cleaning present overall. Factory markings remain clear and intact. Dark bore, exhibiting a consistent scattering of patches of mild to moderate pitting, while retaining fair rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound. (01-28963/MLW). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
